This 4.01-acre property would be the perfect spot for the home of your dreams. The property is easily accessed off Route 82 in an ideal residential neighborhood.
Plaistow is located in the southeastern part of Rockingham County in the state of New Hampshire. It is bordered on the north by Hampstead, northeast by Kingston, east by Newton, west by Atkinson, and south by Haverhill, Mass. Plaistow's area, which covers about nine square miles, lies at 42 degrees and 50 minutes north latitude and is nearly equidistant from Concord, N.H. to the north and Boston to the south. From the center of town, it is a 10-minute drive to I-495, 20 minutes to I-93, and 25 minutes to I-95. Route 125 passes through the western part of the town. Plaistow was originally part of Haverhill, its area having been part of the land purchased from the Pentucket Indians in 1642. This area, then known as "Haverhill District," was used as a pasture by residents of the town's North Parish during the first century of Haverhill's history. It remained largely unsettled until the threat of Indian attack abated in the 1720s and 1730s. Shortly thereafter, in 1741, King George II resolved a longstanding border dispute between the colony of Massachusetts and the heirs of New Hampshire's founder John Mason. Under this settlement, much of the disputed territory was given to New Hampshire. Thus, Haverhill's area was substantially reduced, as it lost what are now the towns of Plaistow, Atkinson, Hampstead, and part of Salem. Prior to this measure, residents in many border communities, including Plaistow, were taxed by both Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Nearby attractions include: America’s Stonehenge (8.7 miles), is a privately owned tourist attraction and archaeological site consisting of a number of large rocks and stone structures around roughly 30 acres within the town of Salem, NH. Winnekenni Castle and Park (6.4 miles) - In 1861, Dr. James R. Nichols, a brilliant chemist and agriculturist bought the Darling Farm, which sat on a hill overlooking Lake Kenoza, to use for his experiments with chemical fertilizers. In 1872 he visited England and Scotland and was inspired by their long-standing stone structures. He returned with an idea to build a summer home from native boulders and rocks. He was quoted at the time as saying … “we desire to prove to farmers and others in a practical way the value of boulder rocks (so common on almost every New England Farm) as building materials.” Construction began in 1873 and was completed two years later in 1875. He called the building Winnekenni Castle and the surrounding farm Winnekenni, an Algonquian Native American term for “Very Beautiful!” The Haverhill Gazette, in 1875, described the interior of the Castle at the time.
Local fare includes – Crow’s Nest Pub and Grill (1.6 miles). They offer live music from some of the hottest banks in the area such as Among the Living, Bite The Bullet, Blackheart, Casual Gravity, Off Duty Angels, The Take and more! They also now have roof-top dining. Sweet Baby Vineyard (5.7 miles), was started in 2008 after the owners discovered their love of wine making. What started as a hobby for Lewis, quickly grew into a family business. They originally chose their home in Kensington because it had a lot of land for their children to play and space to garden. Growing up in New Hampshire, their family has always enjoyed all of the fresh fruits that the spring, summer and fall bring. Each season they take the kids to the local farms to pick strawberries, blueberries, peaches and apples. They decided to bring these fresh fruits grown at our local farms to their wine. They also turned part of their land into a vineyard, which yields four varieties of the grapes they use in their wine. They now have happily outgrown their little home winery and moved to a new much larger farm in Hampstead, NH. In the spring of 2016, they planted over 2000 new grape vines. The new home has almost 8 acres, a separate building for year-round tastings, a production building and a large three-story barn for finished wine storage.
Got time for golf, The Links at LaBelle Winery (8.4 miles), is nestled on Big Island Pond’s bank. It is a premier nine-hole, par 3 golf course; one of New Hampshire’s most beautiful.
Maudslay State Park (18.8 miles), features 19th century gardens and plantings, rolling meadows, towering pines, and one of the largest naturally occurring stands of mountain laurel in Massachusetts. It's the perfect place for a walk, bike ride or picnic. Educational programs are offered during the summer.
Plaistow, NH is part of the Timberlane Regional School District. Public education is available K-12. Pollard School (2.1 miles) offers education for the K-5 age group.
